100 Years of ANZAC / 100
April 25 2015, I attended ANZAC Day Dawn Parade an service in Auckland Domain. This time, it is a bit special because it’s been a century for ANZAC. At city council website, it reminds public to get there earlier due to a much larger number of people will join the memorial events. For this reason, even the inner link buses has start to run earlier and run more frequently.
Of course, for ANZAC, there are many other places have memorial events at different places at different time, but many people like me would like to attend this one. Last year, I went to the 99th ANZAC as well (for the post about 99 Years ANZAC, click here.). Unlike last year, I have only used Leica cameras instead of DSLRs to make all the photos. One of the main advantages I am getting is the focus accuracy. Modern high-end DSLRs do have really really good auto-focus systems, but in the complex situations like this one, you have people everywhere and the lighting is not good at all, manual focusing would produce higher rates of in-focused photos than DSLRs.
Last year, when I carried two Nikon DSLRs with two prime lenses, I got some special treatments from others. Because they thought I am a photographer for a newspaper, they would like to give me some space when I needed and people get noticed of me very quickly and easily. In other words, it means I can’t take good photos as I want, because they could spot me easily and knowing that I am taking photos. This time, it’s big difference when I am using M system. I use the same aperture lenses for the same focal lengths, but the sizes difference of M lenses with DSLR lenses are huge. This causes I didn’t get “caught” by other people, and I could have the chances to capture the real emotions of people instead of “knowing camera is there” kind of expressions.
